The works completed within Building A of Sunshine Hospital provides new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Cardiac Catheter Suite facilities and Emergency Department offices for staff.

The ICU operates 24 hours per day and the new facilities provide critical care services for up to 13 patients within Sunshine Hospital. The clinical area consists of 12 treatment bays, an Isolation Room, and two Staff Bases, as well as support areas including Meds Rooms, Dirty Utility Disposal, offices and administration areas.

A new lift shaft was added to the exterior of Building A with capacity for two lifts. The new lift lobbies at the Ground Floor and Level 1 link the lift to the existing building. On the Ground Floor, the Emergency Department Offices were reconfigured to accommodate the new corridor to the new lift lobby.

The new Cardiac Catheter Suite (Cath Labs) is located within the existing Dialysis and office area on Level 1. The Cath Labs provide interventional cardiology services for in and out patients and includes Patient Recovery and Holding clinical areas, and a Staff Base. The Procedure Rooms are equivalent to an operating theatre and house the angiogram equipment; associated rooms include the Control and Server Rooms with service and program requirements as part of the angiogram equipment. The Sterile Store is adjacent to the Procedure Room and acts as the operating instrument prep area. The Cath Labs also has support areas including Dirty Utility Disposal, Equipment Stores, Waiting Room, and Offices.

Due to hydraulic relocations in the new ICU and Cath Labs, some works were required for the Ground Level Emergency Department. Hydraulics where possible were located near existing runs to minimise disruption to the Emergency Department’s operations.
