Following the successful delivery of the Main Administration Building and Central Amenities Building in late 2014, Exxon Mobil engaged IBC to carry out the refurbishment of the Maintenance Workshop at the Altona Refinery located at corner Millers Rd and Kororoit Creek Road.
The project was delivered in two separable portions, with Separable Portion 1 involving the construction of a new 900m2 workshop within the existing warehouse. This compromised both heavy and clean workshops, a library, mechanical areas, and amenities, as well as major structural strengthening works to the existing building roof truss frame.
Separable Portion 2 involved extensive demolition, structural strengthening works, and new wall cladding to the existing warehouse façade.
As the works were carried out within the oil refinery, many technical trade elements were involved and several of the building materials in the workshop area were required to be chemical resistant materials and comply with “blast proof” regulations.
