The new 24-hour Police Station on Barkly Street was built to replace the existing Ararat Police Station. The modernised Police Station is utilised as a multi-use 24-hour facility that includes holding cells, meeting and conference facilities, divisional areas, gymnasiums, quiet rooms, and staff offices.
The new facility was constructed on a 2300m2 site and included the main two-storey building (1900m2 over two levels) with an impressive entry foyer and reception area, car parking, security fences, state-of-the-art building services, external storage sheds, and landscaping, which included the preservation of existing heritage trees.
The building structure is a combination of steel, concrete ground floor and a suspended first floor slab, and features a complex facade design with Rheinzinc, Vitre-Panel, honed bluestone cladding, and colourful feature glazing elements.
