The new Specialised Indoor Exercise and Sports Science Building (Building U) at Deakin University’s Burwood Campus is in a visually prominent location of the Campus, being the first building to greet visitors from the east entry at Burwood Highway. Accordingly, the building has been designed to provide a dynamic view on entering the campus with a large cantilevered entry point and angled facade.
The four-level building provides state-of-the-art sport science learning facilities for the students including a dedicated Clinical Exercise Learning Centre and consulting rooms; specialist facilities and equipment for Biomechanics, Motor Learning, and Strength and Conditioning; a Climate Chamber that can simulate extreme temperatures, humidity and altitude; cardio area and an open group fitness area; 5 x 40m running lanes; and open plan workspaces for staff and research students. The running tracks on each level are given visual prominence and express the activities of the building.
The Specialised Indoor Exercise and Sports Science Building was constructed whilst the campus remained operational.
