Located within the grounds of the former Pentridge Prison, the Coburg Children’s Centre works involved the extension to and refurbishment of the existing heritage building.
The building has 5 main rooms for children’s activities, as well as spaces for staff, and a large central children’s yard; the new Centre caters for up to 120 children aged from 0 to 5 years. The Council’s Maternal and Child Health Centre was relocated into the new facility from its original location across the road.
The building is complemented externally with extensive landscaping that features three separate outdoor play areas with sand pits, overhead shade sails, soft fall areas, rock bubblers, rock landscape, exposed aggregate paving, bluestone paving, fencing and timber decking decks, contained within the original blue stone walls of Pentridge Village.
The façade of the building is made up of a combination of several elements including feature brickwork, FC cladding, aluminium thermally broken windows, timber windows, perforated aluminium sunshades and various timber cladding.
