The National Training Areas and Ranges Improvement Programme (NTARIP) Works Package 12 for the Victorian Department of Defence included works within the following three base sites.
Puckapunyal Military Training Area
The Puckapunyal Military Training Area is an Australian Army training facility and base located approximately 120km north of Melbourne. The infrastructure at this base was upgraded through extensive civil works, range rectification and demolition, which included the construction of new access roads and a targets and weapons range with control towers to encompass static grenade range. Additionally, battle sheds access gates with fencing and environmental toilet blocks were positioned around the base for military exercises.
HMAS Cerberus Training Area
HMAS Cerberus is located approximately 80km south-east of Melbourne and serves as the primary training base for the Royal Australian Navy. The upgrade works at this base involved road infrastructure rectification, site wide drainage/irrigation upgrades and improvements to various training areas, including extending an existing timber fence line along the south-western edge between Pistol Range 1 and the Marksmanship Training Range, as well as providing new concrete access paths over existing gravel pathways to both 25m Pistol Ranges 1 and 2.
Dutson Air Weapons Range
Dutson Air Weapons Range is a bombing range operated by the Royal Australian Air Force, located approximately 230km south-east of Melbourne. The existing pyrotechnics concrete blockhouse was demolished as part of the upgrade works at this base, followed by the construction of a boat ramp access track, upgrade of the existing firing mounds, target bank and mantlet, and reconstruction of the stop butt.
