The redevelopment of Wakefield Street Hawthorn runs through the heart of the University’s Hawthorn campus. The new works aimed to re-envision Wakefield Street as a central hub for students and the community alike. Key elements included; soft landscaping, services infrastructure, irrigation, lighting systems to feature planters, landscape furniture and a mix of pavement finishes works (exposed aggregate concrete, bluestone tiling and asphalt).

The project encountered many complexities including contaminated soil, soft spots and lowering of authority services, nevertheless completion prior to the university’s open day was achieved with a great result for Swinburne University.
