Ireland Brown Constructions were engaged to construct the new Children’s and Community Centre for Melton City Council.

Developed to meet the needs of the fast-growing Shire of Melton, the new state-of-the-art facility consists of three kindergartens, a childcare centre, maternal health facilities, staff offices and communal spaces for the public.

Located within a heritage-protected site on Clarkes Road, Brookfield, specific management plans and induction procedures were developed and implemented throughout the entire project duration due to the presence of aboriginal artefacts.

A distinct point of difference of this particular community centre is the strong focus on exceptional architectural finish. The façade of the building is comprised of a base combination of texture rendered hebel powerpanel and bagged painted brickwork. This is further distinguished by the use of horizontal grating screens, feature artedomus tile cladding, longspan roof sheeting and various types of timber linings.

Internally, materials and colour diversity exists throughout the building. Different carpet themes, ecophon ceiling tiles in various colours and supawood ceiling beams are some of the items which have been specified.

The myriad of finishes combinations and associated long lead times made supplier coordination and ordering of materials a key point of focus for the project team. Working under a tight time frame, Ireland Brown Constructions completed this facility in December 2014, in time for operation at the beginning of 2015.
